Wiki Weekend Tirana 2017

The Internet Encyclopedia Wikipedia, with over 30 million items in 287 languages and over 5 million items in the English version, is considered as an open source distribution torch. Given the desire to enrich the articles in Albanian on Wikipedia, thus facilitating the search and informing of any Albanian speaker, the Open Labs community together with Wikimedia Community User Group Albania develop for the fourth consecutive year Wiki Weekend Tirana 2017.

This activity will take place during the second weekend of December, respectively on December 9 and 10, where participants will gather at the Open Labs Hackerspace (Tirana), in a program that combines workshops with presentations from Wikipedians from Tirana, Elbasan, Durres, Pristina, Gjilan, Zurich etc

The purpose of this activity is to build bridges of cooperation with other wikipedians from the country and the region, to inspire new Wikipedians to join the community, to get the public familiar with the Wikimedia projects, to organize the editing and to raise local media awareness and institutions about the importance of sharing knowledge through collaborative platforms and collaborative wiki culture. There will also be workshops / edit-a-thons about Wikidata, Wiki Loves Maps, Wikiproject LGBT, Wikimedia Commons etc, which are other Wikimedia subprojects focusing on other areas.

The event starts at 9:30 am and ends at 04:00 pm (Saturday and Sunday) and is enriched with a variety of workshops, presentations, conversations and (most important) edit-a-thons, where attendees will use the knowledge gained and will work in groups for further improvement of Wikipedia articles with special focus on articles about our country’s cultural monuments.
